Charlie Bell

Charlie Bell
Southampton, On
Leader - Saxophone, Clarinet and Flute
- began playing clarinet and sax at an early age in Kitchener On performing in local youth orchestras and commercial bands while attending high school, The University of Western On Faculty of Music, and Althouse College from which he graduated in 1976 and 1977 respectively. In '77 he began teaching secondary school instrumental and vocal music for the Bruce County Board of Education and then became the board's Music Coordinator in 1984. He continued to play commercially on weekends throughout his teaching career from which he retired in 2007.
In 1986 he established and began leading the Stardust Big Band with the help and support of local musicians in the counties of Bruce and Grey. Through its 25 year history, the Stardust Big Band performed in many venues across Central and Southwestern Ontario including Toronto's Palais Royale and Royal York Hotel and produced two cds. The band gave its last performance at the Georgian Sound Big Band Festival in April 2011.
Presently, Charlie leads the Charlie Bell Trio which performs regularly in the Bruce-Grey region and has established "The Walker House Jazz Club" in Southampton On, which features a great Canadian Jazz Artist regularly. Charlie is thrilled to have formed the Canadian Big Band with assistance from musicians Andy Harasymczuk and Jack McFadden and feels most fortunate to lead a professional big band comprised of some of Canada's finest jazz and big band musicians.
