- is an active bass trombonist in Toronto and a charter member of John Macleod’s Rex Hotel Orchestra, Whitney Smith’s Big Steam Band and the Top Brass Orchestra. He has also played with the Brian Barlow Big Band and Hilario Duran’s Latin Jazz Big Band and recorded the Juno-winning CD “From the Heart” with that group. Colin has played with numerous classical groups such as the Hannaford Street Silver Band, the Montreal Symphony and the Louis Cyr Brass Quintet. He has also played numerous theatre productions such as The Sound of Music, A Chorus Line, The Producers, West Side Story, The Rat Pack and Lord of the Rings, and performed with Tony Bennett, Paul Anka, Aretha Franklin, Frank Sinatra, Jr., Burt Bacharach, Joan Rivers, Paquito d’Rivera, Randy Brecker, Slide Hampton and John Pizzarelli (appearing on his DVD “Live in Montreal- the Big Band). Colin has adjudicated at McGill University, University of Toronto and the JazzFest des Jeunes du Quebec. Colin graduated with distinction in trombone from McGill University in Montreal where he was a student of Ted Griffith, and was the recipient of a Canada Council grant to study with renowned Los Angeles studio bass trombonist Phil Teele. He freelanced in Montreal for over 15 years and performed and recorded with the Denny Christianson Big Band, Vic Vogel’s Big Band, the Andrew Homzy Jazz Orchestra, on CBC radio and television and frequently with the Quebecois folk group “La Bottine Souriante”. He has been in Toronto since 1995.
